How many here think Trump's news conference this evening was absolutely brilliant
by ShirleyW ini'm being serious, i would like to hear from folks here that support him describe to me how that news conference was absolute brilliance, he answered all the questions, he knows what he is talking about.
just want to compare note with those who aren't his supporters (and have common sense) as you know this forum is here to hear both sides, so, have at it .

Disbelief. I was at work in the UK and didn't see a TV until I got home. But I had been to New York 18 months before and stood at the top of the trade centre. I didn't see how it was possible for the buildings to collapse.
I went back a couple of years later and went to ground zero. I plan to go back up the new tower next year.

Sex before marriage
by Jules Saturn infor ex jws, pimos, pomos, faders, born again christians, agnostics, atheists, etc.
what is your opinion regarding sex before marriage, has your view been influenced since you left?
in western society, you’ll probably find yourself ridiculed to be an 18 year old virgin so i am curious to hear opinions from here.

I was raised a JW and observed their rules on sex before marriage. As long as my children are legally of an age to engage in sex then I would have no problem with them doing so outside of marriage. I will talk to them about protecting themselves physically and emotionally of course but they're not quite at that age yet.

You should avoid washing powder made by Proctor and Gamble, their logo is a satanic.

Screwed up sexually
by purrpurr ini was thinking about how the borg screws up and sexually neuters their flock by telling them when single to "deaden their body" and then boom as soon as there's a ring on the finger to not be denying eachother.. do any of you know of jws who have been screwed up by these teachings?
i know 2, 1 elder came back from honeymoon having a nervous breakdown unable to cope with the cd that sex produced in his head.
and the other called up her parents while on honeymoon, crying and begging for themto come and get her, since she was so shocked that sex hurt.

Yes 2 female friends who couldn't have penetrative sex for years after marriage because of the psychological damage of being raised JW. With medical support and counselling they both recovered and went on to have children. They both had vaginismus.

Paradise delayed and the marshmallow test
by Mickey mouse ini recently read a book called the marshmallow test by walter mischel.
it describes research which stemmed from an experiment in the 1960s where children were offered the choice of 1 treat, sometimes a marshmallow, or 2 treats if they can wait a while.
one of the unexpected findings was that children who perform well in the test (delay gratification) generally have a better chance of having a happy successful life, even earning more than their peers who wanted the treat right away.

I recently read a book called The Marshmallow Test by Walter Mischel. One of the unexpected findings was that children who perform well in the test (delay gratification) generally have a better chance of having a happy successful life, even earning more than their peers who wanted the treat right away.
One section explained the link between a child's ability to delay gratification and their previous experience of whether good things really had come to them when they had waited in the past. This made me think about the JW life which is basically one big long delayed gratification for the "real life to come". Is it any wonder that so many JWs seem to have poor control when it comes to things like food and alcohol!? Their previous experience tells them that good things don't come so may as well eat, drink and be... Well, there aren't that many merry JWs now I think about it.

Concerned Parent
by ConcernedParent ini'm writing for some advice from former jws.
my family is christian, and my 15yo daughter is "dating" a jw boy.
(the quotes are because they aren't old enough to actually go out on dates... they consider themselves bf/gf and have hung out and gone places with each other, but always with parents, family, etc.

Just a couple of observations: JWs are only supposed to date "with a view to marriage" ie not before they are of a legal age to marry and not as a social activity but quickly expected to commit or end the relationship. Secondly they are not permitted to date/marry non-JWs. It is highly likely your daughter's boyfriend's family are unaware of the relationship.
The only way he could legitimise the relationship, and even then it is frowned upon, is to get her to convert and get baptised. Beware!

Dr David Kelly and Danny Casolaro
by LoveUniHateExams ini’ve long been interested in the death of dr david kelly – i bought norman baker’s book and i recently bought a book by miles goslett on the topic.
in his book, norman baker mentions danny casolaro.
he was a freelance journalist who, like dr kelly, was also ‘suicided’.. i’ve just been watching part one of a two part documentary on casolaro’s ‘suicide’ … and am fascinated with the parallels to kelly’s death.. prior to their deaths, both men were involved in highly sensitive matters – kelly had come forward to a journalist to blow the whistle on the blair government’s sexed-up dossier; casolaro had been gathering information on underground activities involving the us government and the cia.. both men were found with their wrists slashed.. there were certain discrepancies in both cases.

Suggestions for horror/supernatural movies
by Addison0998 inhey guys, so now that i’m pretty much atheist and i’m not scared of demons or supernatural things, or bring them into my house by watching movies or reading books about them lol, i defenitly want to watch a few scary movies.
i’ve always loved scary movies, but as witness, you don’t get to watch many since they need to be pg-13 and have no spiritism in it lol.
does anyone have any suggestions?

The Conjuring and The Ring are two more recent ones I like. I'm not into gore. For classics The Exorcist and Psycho have to be seen. The Thing (original) is one of my all time favourite films. I love John Carpenter films, The Fog and Escape From New York are classics IMO.
